Permissionless: Day 1 + DeAI Day Recap

Day 1 of Permissionless kicked off strong with Trevor Harries-Jones speaking on the DePIN and AI Confluence panel exploring how decentralized AI and infrastructure are reshaping the future. The Render Network team also hosted an amazing DePIN x AI Happy Hour for builders, creators, and community members with 600+ RSVPs (a packed space in a cool vinyl record bar, full of energy, ideas, and inspiration).

Day 2 featured back-to-back sessions at DeAI Day:

The panel, Making Decentralized AI Invisible: When Users Don’t Need to Know It’s Decentralized, featured Paul Roales from RenderLabs, Drew Austin at Red Beard VC, Will Little at Wire Network, and Ayesh Kiani at NYU Tandon in a convo focused on simplifying complex infrastructure for real world use.

The panel, DeAI Needs a Front End: Building Products Real People Can Use featured the Render Network, Tim Cotten at Scrypted, Erik Forst at Blocksee, and a leader from Oortech in a conversation on UI, accessibility, and how to scale decentralized AI adoption beyond developers.

We broke down a few of the best moments from both days (with more to come):

While at Permissionless, the team got the chance to attend Beeple’s advanced preview of “Diffuse Control” at The Shed NYC on Wednesday June 25th for an immersive showcase at the edge of digital art and real world interaction.

Reminder: Coinbase U.S. Delisted RNDR last Thursday at 2PM ET.

Beta access to http://OTOY.ai and Render Network’s API is coming soon

June’s Render Royale brought Urban Utopias to life with stunning entries rendered on @rendernetwork using Cycles, Octane, and Redshift.

Judging is underway, but you can get a preview of the submissions and prepare for Month 3’s theme.

THE LATEST IN AI:

Baidu’s open sourcing its Ernie model on June 30 and it could be a big take at OpenAI, Anthropic, and the global AI space

FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] is here — open weights, best in class image editing, & proprietary-level performance on consumer chips

Will AI be the end of creativity? @beeple doesn’t think so.
“Almost everybody takes some level of pictures,” he says. “But we’re not all photographers.”

Full convo w/ @SamEwen out now:

OpenAI’s new model may already match o3 mini on smartphones, good enough for 90% of knowledge tasks for free. Full o3 level performance on edge still expected next year.

A big month for open source AI!

  • @bfl_ml released the best open weights image editing model, on par with GPT4o.
  • @Google released Gemma 3n, the first model under 10B parameters to hit an LMarena AI score over 1300.
  • All available on @huggingface which is pushing open source AI to lead across all modalities.
